The debut full-length record by blasted Moscow iconoclasts Fudger is the real deal

Aiming for your psychic jugular like a rabid mutant leech, it sucks in all the good ways, generously infusing its victims with unwavering nervy energy and unholy euphoria. Starting with addictive riff of “Hungry Grass” the album never loses vibe, getting more and more urgent with each track.

Fudger’s fret-destroying, atonal guitar heroics bring to mind evergreen giants Fugazi and Sonic Youth, while melodic outbursts of “Leather Blow” and “Exorcist 3” bristle with warped pop sensibility of At the Drive-In’s catchiest anthems. Relentless brain-bangers “Nut” and “Evildoer” revel in good old hardcore punk filtered through epileptic tempos. Special hooray goes to tireless exploits of ultra-tight rhythm section.

Thanks to constant hysteria of vocal delivery, we might never know what glorious depravities and disturbing tableaux are being described in the lyrics, though occasional moments of almost tender melodic interplay between the singers provide a much needed emotional shelter in the eye of the great shitstorm.
